How do you build precision in boxing skills? What do we mean by precision in boxing skills? In this video I will give you some principles, tools and techniques to help you incorporate precision when you are executing your boxing skills.
A definition of precision is “The quality, condition or fact of being exact and accurate”. When it comes to boxing skills, I think that precision is all about ensuring that every skill is performed by simply avoiding fault.
With your boxing footwork, lay down a boxing drills pattern.
When you are moving in and out, or executing side steps or pivots, go for small and precise movements. Don’t try to cover too much ground.
Maintain your boxing stance configuration throughout every movement.
When it comes to punching, let’s be precise and accurate. So, avoid under-rotation when executing the jab or right cross. Avoid flaring of the elbow during the punch.
How do you know if you are avoiding these faults? Well first it’s about being aware of them. Second, do your drills in a mirror. The mirror can be a great coach.
In an ideal world you can lay your boxing drill pattern out in front of a mirror. That way when you are combining your footwork drills and punching you get the full picture.
So, that’s what we aim for when we go for precision in boxing skills.
