A great way to increase your power punching is to square your boxing stance.
As always though, there is a trade off when you go for power punching.
Making your stance square allows you to drive lots of power in your hooks and uppercuts.
However, this is not a stance to go with at long range.
The trade off is that with a square stance you are less mobile, less able to use explosive footwork to shift position.
Another aspect of this is the willingness to switch southpaw to orthodox and back again.
To that end there is an additional boxing footwork drill to help you develop that ability.
So go for this power punching alternative at close and mid range, not at long range.

Hello, how are you? I hope all is well.
I like to square off my stance in close range. Only issue is, I am having a hard time remembering to do square off at close range, and when I do square off I forget to switch to the basic side stance. I usually mess up and forget to switch back. Any tips or exercises that’ll help with this problem? Perhaps maybe just a lack of footwork/coordination?
Just work it on the bags in a relaed way, drifting from a squared orthodox to a square southpaw stance. Also try the stance switch video on this site https://www.myboxingcoach.com/advanced-boxing-footwork-stance-switch/
Hi Fran
That’s the theme for my next session sorted then!! Noticed the nod to Hagler in there, just found out he has suddenly passed away. Watched an interview with him years after he retired, talked a lot of sense and came across as real gentleman.
Hello Dan
Always nice to know that I’ve put something out that you can put to work right away, cool that😀
Yes mate, sad about Marvin, been feeling melancholy all day
Great stuff! Thanks for sharing that with us. The switching stance is what made Tyson so effective. Keep it coming, Sir!
Thank you pal👍
