Boxing training routines come in many different forms. From this page you can find out how I as a boxing coach develop the boxers that I work with. These techniques are not something that I have gained from a book. I have developed these techniques after a lifetime in the sport of boxing.
These are essential articles that will enable you to understand what the MyBoxingCoach website can do for you in developing your boxing training regime. There are insights in videos and written content that will really open up your horizons to what is possible with the right boxing training.
Learn the Skills
Skills development is a fundamental part of a boxing training routine. As boxers we build stamina, speed, strength and suppleness in order to be able to apply the skills to their maximum effect. The article on The Top 10 Boxing Training Videos should be your first port of call.
Reinforce the Skills
Boxing training drills are the most simple and effective way to learn, develop and reinforce boxing skills. Drills come in many forms, but whatever method is used no boxing training routine is complete without them. To get a solid grounding in boxing drills, follow this link to the article Boxing Drills – Tips for Success.
Getting Physical with the Heavy Bag
The heavy bag is instantly identifiable with the boxing gym and the boxing training routine. For the majority of fighters, the very first thing that they actually ‘hit’ is the heavy bag. It can be used in many ways and really is a time-tested and outstanding way of building the muscles used for punching. The article The Heavy Bag – 5 Rules to Hit By will explain all.
The Next Step…
One of the finest ways to learn the movement, speed and power required in boxing is to use the punch pads, also known as the focus mitts. To demonstrate this, I produced 4 video articles in which I work with boxers in executing the very skills that I have published on this site. Here is the first article in the series on Boxing Lessons on the Punch Pads.
The Psychology of Fighting
Whilst building the skills, strength and speed are of course vital, the psychology of boxing has demands all of its own. Whilst pressure exists in many sports, the fact that in boxing you encounter a highly trained opponent who is seeking to beat you up brings an additional level of stress. Check out this series of articles on the Psychology of Boxing to get an insight in what to expect and how to deal with it.
