Boxing Training Tips to Nail Long Range Basics

It is really important to be the very best you can be at long range. And there’s a simple reason for this, most of the stuff we do in a boxing fight is at long range.

So, the boxing training tips in this video relate to building upon the basics of the simple one-two when at long range.

Within the video, we cover 2 broad areas of long range boxing.

The first short boxing training video examines the options when it comes to throwing punches. We evolve from the basic one-two (jab and cross) to build 6 variations of long range head shots.

A key concept here is rotating your body for the punches and changing the trajectory of the punch by altering the point in the rotation at which you let the punch go. The earlier in the rotation, the more angled the punch. The later in the rotation, the straighter the punch.

The second boxing training video looks at what we call ‘phased attacks’. This is where we use punches and a simple push away to the edge of range (or lay back) before returning to long range and letting more punches go.

You can continue this for as long as you like, building high intensity, high volume punching abilities in your boxing style whilst retaining defensive effectiveness.

Here’s a short video to work through the drills. Note that the sound and video quality is poor, but the content is pretty good to help you get familiar with phased attacks:

So there you have it, some simple boxing training tips to help you be as effective as you can be at long range.

Cheers

    Great stuff.
I wish I was that good on the bag, if that is slowing down.
Anyway I know what my next bag session will look like.
