In this video we focus on creating angles of attack. To create these angles of attack, we are going to build in some angled side steps into your training session.
The angled side step is all about making a lateral movement, shifting you out of the strike zone of your opponent whilst keeping them in your strike zone.

Some key pointers:
- Always set the diversion. Either use a punch or a feint, but you must ‘fix’ the opponent before you execute. The angled side step doesn’t really work as an initiator.
- Be economical with your foot shift. Not too far!
- Always attack after you execute. It takes energy to do the angled side step (like much else), so be bold and drive home the attack. This is true for long range and close range.
- When you launch your attack, you need high levels of aggression. The opponent is in your strike zone – go for it.
