Boxing Combinations at Long Range – My 5 Basics for Success

Most of the activity that goes on in a boxing ring does so at long range. It makes sense then to ensure that your boxing combinations at long range are a strong part of your boxing skill set. This video describes my 5 basics, my 5 fundamentals for getting your long range combinations up to scratch.

Boxing Combinations at Long Range

Remember that boxing combinations are made up of a sequence of skills. This means that each skill must be perfectly executed. If each skill is not executed, if there are faults, then your boxing combination will gradually break down. So, drill each individual skill, make it the best it can be.

Your long range boxing combinations can also benefit from varying the angles of the punches. Rather than oust sticking with the 1-2, there are actually 8 variations of those shots…so use them. Then you need to be dominant, so plenty of feints – trigger the opponent, dominate the space.

Phased attack, sometimes referred to as the pendulum step, are a superb way to execute and provide the connect the punches of your boxing combinations. Takes a little practice to get it right, but once you master the phased attack it will become a staple of your boxing work.

Finally, end defensive. There’s not point executing great boxing combinations if you get clipped with shots every time you land your last punch. So, incorporate a defensive skill to minimise the risk of taking the last shot during an exchange.
