Beating Shorter Boxers – Lethal 3 Step Strategy

Are you looking for ways of beating shorter boxers? There are lots of approaches, lots of strategies that can be used to stick it to the shorter and often more aggressive opponent in a boxing ring. Have you thought about a 3-step reversal strategy?

Beating Shorter Boxers

Most of the time, the objective of a shorter boxer when tackling a taller boxer is to cover ground quickly, get up close and smash away with shorter punches.

For shorter boxers, this is a high energy strategy. Being on the attack constantly is tiring, as well as being risky. Simple fact, you are more likely to take more shots when you are going forward than when you are going backwards.

So, when it comes to beating shorter boxers, especially aggressive shorter boxers, you can build this desire to constantly attack into your strategy.

When beating shorter boxers, you can go with a reversal strategy.

This strategy is executed in 3 steps:

Step 1
Allow the shorter boxer to advance. Ensure that as you retreat you deliver shots onto the target and after an initial straight line retreat use pivots and side steps to create angles.

Step 2
At a time of your choosing, begin standing your ground using jabs and uppercuts as the shorter boxer closes. When at close range, be sure to use double cover so with small adjustments you can block hooks. Also remember to keep shifting off the centre line so as to avoid being targeted by uppercuts.

Step 3
Begin to grind forward, putting the shorter boxer on their back foot. Take the ground from them, using straight shots to force the opponent back. Once the shorter boxer is being forced back, they are way less effective.

Beating shorter boxers is about applying the right tactics at the right time.
