9 Counter Punching Sequences for the Heavy Bag

We all know that the heavy bag forms a massive part of our boxing training. However, performing well on the heavy bag is really the culmination of deliberate and disciplined practice of boxing drills.

This boxing training video is the final in our series on mastering counter punching.

Boxing Training on the Heavy Bag

In this heavy bag session I am executing 9 pre-set sequences that we have already covered in the previous session on boxing drills for counter punching.

The pre-set sequences that we built from the boxing drills are:

  1. JAB – LAYBACK – JAB
  2. JAB – LAYBACK – ONE TWO
  3. JAB – SLIP IN – JAB
  4. JAB – SLIP OUT – BACKHAND
  5. JAB – BACK HAND BLOCK – 3 STRAIGHT
  6. FEINT – LEAD HAND BLOCK – 3 STRAIGHT
  7. JAB – DOUBLE ARM BLOCK – 3 STRAIGHT
  8. BLOCK LEFT SIDE – RIGHT HOOK BODY – RIGHT UPPERCUT HEAD
  9. BLOCK RIGHT SIDE – LEFT HOOK BODY – LEFT UPPERCUT HEAD

I’d love to get your thoughts on this heavy bag session and whether you feel you can incorporate the ideas into your boxing training.

Cheers

Fran

Fran, don’t know if this went through already but to be sure I will try again. There are 9 drills all 30s each except for the last two that are 1 minute each. It appear then that round 2 only has three drills how does that equate to a 2 minute round @ 30s. per drill? Am I missing something?

      Hello Pug

I designed that round for the first 2 drills being 30 seconds and the 3rd drill being 1 minute. I only did this because I think that the double arm block is worth the work because I reckon we use that a lot👍
