Combining slips with good boxing footwork can bring massive benefits both for your offensive and defensive boxing training.
A wonderful skill in boxing is slipping, often seen as a way of avoiding punches, and that’s true. But, slipping punches also creates great attacking opportunities.
You make the opponent miss AND you provide additional leverage to increase the power of your shots.
When you then combine the slick skill of slipping with simple movement in and out, then Wow, you are really taking it up a level.
So in this coaching video, I talk you through:
- Slipping Inside
- Slipping Outside
- Movement Forward
- Movement Backward
- Combining slips with movement forward and backward – we split the skills and find the complementary elements of each skill
- Bringing punches to the show
This is intended to give you that base level of skills.
Audie Murphy, the most decorated US solider of World War 2, did some pretty amazing things. But, be under no illusion, he started off doing basic weapons drills and basic tactical training.
As Pablo Picasso once said “Learn the rules like a professional so that you can break them like an artist.” Take the Pablo Picasso route when it comes to your boxing training.
In the next video I do a ‘coach-along’ session where we nail this with a good old-fashioned boxing drills session.
