Boxing combinations are at the core of boxing, and to get your boxing combinations smooth and effective you need to drill, drill, drill. This video provides a 5 minute boxing drill to help you build 5 solid boxing combinations.
The first boxing combination drill that we use is the phased attack. This is a staple of a good long range boxing combination. You need to get to the point where you execute without tripping any of the key faults; losing the line from the toe to the heel, flaring elbows, hands dropping and so on.
Side steps form the footwork skill of the 2nd combination, mixing in with clean one-twos. The 3rd combination moves on to one of the most versatile footwork skills – the pivot. Avoid tilting your weight forward as you pivot…that’s a bad fault.
The 4th combination combines the movement in and out with the pivot, and delivering a nice, swiped lead hand hook as you go. And the final combination is a neat way of building greater power in your back hand with the lead foot step across.
Each of these boxing combinations should be executed for 1 minute, that’s a 5 minute drill in total.
