10 Boxing Punching Drills for Beginners | Essential Learning

There are some basics in boxing that just have to be mastered. Following are 10 essential boxing punching drills. If you can master simple drills like these then you you have the right platform to build a solid boxing style. If you can’t master these drills, put more time in.

There are 3 essentials in boxing: 1) Punch well 2) Move well 3) Combine 1) and 2).

The drills in this video are focused on power-based boxing. The primary principle is that you can move when using lead hand punches and you are static when using back hand punches.

A key point to remember when doing your boxing drills: Tiredness is the enemy of learning. You want to be fresh doing stuff like this. So, keep the drills short and take a rest between the execution of each drill.

The first sequence of 5 drills are about mastery of the punching. So, we are aiming for good flow and effective rotation, driving the power from the feet.

The second sequence of 5 drills are about maintaining flow and control and control as we move and punch.

Don’t rush your drills. Do the basics well, deliberate practice, slow and steady.

Towards the end of the video I include an alternative approach to the drills. It’s worth noting that more often than not there is more than one solution to any given problem.
